Grade 3 Coordinators:
Linda Scanlon & Anne O’Connor
Hello St. John’s Families! This
month focuses on the holiness of the Blessed Mother and the Birth of Jesus.
My Advent Planner (AB pgs. 65-72)
Fill in dates and plan with your child(ren) activities you will include during
this time. Suggested saints to know and model are on page 81 in the Parent’s
Guide.
The Annunciation: Read pgs. 82-84
in the Parent’s guide to prepare for next lesson. You can paraphrase content or
read Scripture Reading aloud. The Discussion, Activity, and Prayer will follow
using Parent’s Guide and Activity Book. Scripture Memorization (AB p. 64)
Explain this quote, memorization is optional. Your child may wish to color Mary
Consoles Eve (p. 74).
The Immaculate Conception: You may
wish to do this lesson on December 8th. Your child may have
difficulty understanding Original Sin. In your explanation be clear that Mary
was born without it. Read pgs. 86-87 in the Parent’s Guide. The book suggests
purchasing a video, Mary, the Mother of God. You may wish to preview free
videos online.
The Incarnation: You may wish to
paraphrase the content of pages 88-90 (Parent’s Guide). Have your child
complete the crossword puzzle on page 76 in the activity book. You have the
answers on page 90 (PG).
December Gospel Coloring Pages:
Read about St. John the Baptist (page 91 PG) and have your child color the
picture on pg. 77 AB. Then read about St. Joseph and have your child color pg.
78 AB.
St. Nicholas of Myra: Read ahead
to paraphrase the biography of St. Nicholas (pgs. 94-95 PG). Discuss how we can
be inspired to be as generous. Have your child read with you pages 79 and 80
AB. Then have your child color page 81.
Throughout this month, you and
your child have discussed the pivotal role our Blessed Mother has in Catholic
beliefs and the important message that Jesus is both man and God. We learn that
we can model our saints.
We hope this month has been
inspirational. You are the link between your child and God. May God bless you
and have a Merry Christmas.
