Grade 3 Coordinators:

Hello St. John’s families! We hope everyone is safe and well. This month you may start off by catching up on October’s agenda. We should focus on our prayers: the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Grace before Meals, and most recently the Apostles’ Creed (page 13). This prayer contains the basic beliefs of our Catholic community.
When introducing this prayer, read it aloud to
your child as he/she follows along. Then break it into small increments to be
memorized. You may wish to use a highlighter as your child memorizes portions
at a time.
Age-appropriate lessons:
Starting Off: Begin with activity outlined on page 52 (Parent’s
Guide). Then explain how our actions should be Christ-like to reflect
God. (Give specific examples of people being kind, sharing, etc.). Then complete
page 45 from the Activity Book.
Discuss “Body and Soul” found on pages 54-55 (Parent’s
Guide). Continue memorizing the Apostles’ Creed.
Grace: Discuss Grace as it is explained
on pages 56/57 in the parent’s guide then give your child examples to draw on
page 48 (Activity Book). Draw flame above each picture.
Fall from Grace: Discuss the story of Adam and
Eve (p. 58 Parent’s Guide), then activity for children (ages 5-8). Continue
memorizing the Apostles’ Creed.
Covenants: Read about God’s covenants. (p. 64-65 in Parent’s Guide) You will need your bible or computer. Then have child complete page 51 in activity book. Reflect on the promise God made to Noah and the significance of the rainbow.
Activities/Resources:
On page 54 in the Activity Book, you should remind your child of obeying the Ten Commandments.
A good age-appropriate lesson resource we found was written by Peggy Weber, "How to Teach the 10 Commandments to Children" - CLICK HERE FOR THE ARTICLE!
For a craft/activity that can be made and displayed for his/her continued reference, CLICK HERE!
Opening the Bible: Choose a few of the bible promises verses from
page 69 of the Parent’s Guide to focus on. Then have your child choose one to
write on page 60 of the Activity Book.
Advent is Coming! Think ahead of how you want your family to
celebrate Advent. Suggestions are on page 70 in the Parent’s Guide.
Getting Ready for Thanksgiving: This Thanksgiving we should remind our
children of all we can be grateful for and thank God for His many blessings. There
are numerous crafts/activities online to choose from if you wish. God bless you
all and Happy Thanksgiving!
